The Sahuarita Road Race is a signature stage of the Tucson Bicycle Classic, following the reverse route of the infamous Shootout—one of the most legendary group rides in the country.
This course features fast rolling terrain, leg-burning efforts, and strategic breakaway opportunities. Whether you’re a climber, a sprinter, or an all-rounder, this iconic course will push you to your limits. The open desert roads, smooth pavement, and high-speed finishes make this a decisive stage in TBC’s General Classification.
If you love high-speed racing, strategic attacks, and thrilling finishes, the Sahuarita Road Race is the perfect stage to watch!
Bring your cowbells, cheer loud, and be part of the energy that makes this stage unforgettable!
The Sahuarita Road Race takes place on open roads with rolling closures, meaning there will be controlled traffic flow to keep racers and spectators safe while allowing limited local access.
There will be 2 awards ceremonies. The first following the completion of the first wave, the second following the completion of the second wave.
Please see map for race parking.
A road race is a mass-start event where riders compete on an open-road circuit or point-to-point course. Unlike a time trial, where riders start individually, a road race involves large groups (pelotons) racing together, using tactics, teamwork, and endurance to reach the finish line first.
The Sahuarita Road Race takes place on our second day of racing, February 22, 2025. The start/finish is located near the Community Performance and Art Center, in Sahuarita, Arizona. Races are scheduled to begin at 8:00am, and conclude around 3:15pm.
The Sahuarita Road Race follows the reverse route of The Shootout, one of the most iconic group rides in the country. The Shootout is a weekly Saturday ride that attracts pro cyclists and triathletes from around the world, known for its fast tempo and competitive format. Now, in reverse, this course brings a new challenge to racers at TBC.
The course consists of 20.5 mile loops, with total race distances varying by category. Pro riders will complete the longest race, while amateur and junior categories will have shorter distances.
No, for safety reasons, non-race cyclists should not ride on the racecourse during the event. However, there are plenty of side roads and scenic areas to enjoy a ride before or after the race!
There will be designated parking areas near the start/finish. Please follow race signage and parking attendants’ directions.
