We are thrilled to add the Rio Nuevo Criterium p/b Visit Tucson to our 2025 race schedule! This exciting event will be limited to the following categories: Men P/1/2, Men 2/3 , Men Masters 40+, and Women P/1/2. Set against the stunning backdrop of downtown Tucson’s vibrant Rio Nuevo district, this fast-paced circuit race features top-tier professional cyclists battling it out under the glow of city lights (which is truly magical).


The Rio Nuevo Criterium combines speed, strategy, and spectacle, with a short, high-intensity course designed to challenge even the most seasoned riders. This one-of-a-kind event not only elevates the competition but creates a dynamic experience for spectators, blending the thrill of cycling with Tucson’s unique urban charm.


We are also happy to announce we will have our first annual Family Fun Ride! We welcome kids and adults of all ages to come and participate. Arrive early, and be ready to roll with a helmet on at 6:30pm. Riders will have a chance to ride the same course the pros are competing on.

Spectator Information

Get ready for an unforgettable night of racing action! The Rio Nuevo Criterium p/b Visit Tucson offers a front-row seat to professional cycling at its finest. Here's what spectators can expect:

  • Prime Viewing Locations: Line the course to feel the rush as cyclists speed by in thrilling laps.
  • Live Announcements: Stay informed with live race commentary highlighting key moments and strategies.
  • Food and Fun: There will be a local food truck for spectators, as well as a buffet at the Doubletree Hotel (on the patio). There are numerous restaurants in walking distance (such as Coronet, Talega Coffee, and El Minuto). We welcome all to join in on our Family Fun Ride hosted by El Grupo!
  • Community Vibes: Cheer alongside cycling enthusiasts from all over the Southwest and be part of an exciting downtown experience.


Experience the U.S. Navy at Tucson Bicycle Classic

Join us for an unforgettable evening as we honor 250 years of America’s Navy with special performances during Tucson Navy Week at the Tucson Bicycle Classic!


5:35 PM – National Anthem & Presentation of Colors

As we celebrate the Navy’s long-standing tradition of delivering power for peace from seabed to space, please welcome Musician 3rd Class Alexander Charles from Navy Band Southwest, traveling from San Diego, CA, to perform our National Anthem.

The Presentation of Colors will be conducted by Sailors from the USS Constitution, the Navy’s oldest active-duty warship, making their way from Boston, MA, to honor this special occasion.


6:20 PM – US Navy Ceremonial Guard Performance

Before the Family Fun Ride, witness a breathtaking performance by the U.S. Navy’s Ceremonial Guard, traveling from Washington, D.C., to showcase their precision and excellence as part of Tucson Navy Week and the Navy’s 250th Birthday Celebration.


Bring your energy, grab a spot, and immerse yourself in the action-packed world of professional cycling. Whether you're a fan of the sport or just looking for a lively evening out, the Twilight Criterium has something for everyone.


We welcome the public to join us for this can’t-miss evening event that celebrates the spirit of competition and community.


Traffic Closures

Please be aware - the following roads will be closed to through traffic from 12:00pm-10:00pm February 21, 2025: 

  • Cushing Street (between Main and Scott) 
  • Stone (between Cushing and McCormick) 
  • McCormick (between Stone and Scott)
  • Scott (between McCormick and 14th St)

There is ample parking at the Tucson Convention Center, but there is a charge. Additional information will be published in the pre-race communique. 

Frequently Asked Questions

A Criterium (or crit) is a high-speed, closed-circuit cycling race featuring professional riders. The event takes place on a short downtown loop, providing spectators with continuous action as cyclists complete multiple laps.


The Rio Nuevo Criterium p/b Visit Tucson will be held on Friday evening in Tucson’s Rio Nuevo district. Races will begin at 5:00pm, and conclude around 9:00pm. 


Yes! The Rio Nuevo Criterium p/b Visit Tucson is free and open to the public. Bring your friends and family for an exciting evening downtown.


Ample parking is available in and around the Tucson Convention Center, including public garages and street parking. We recommend arriving early to secure your spot.


Comfortable shoes, a chair or blanket if you’d like to sit, and your loudest cheering voice! Don’t forget cash or cards for food and drink vendors.


Absolutely! We are pleased to offer a FREE Family Fun Ride, which will begin at 6:30pm (ending at 7:00pm). Kids and adults of all ages are encouraged to attend. Please have a helmet on at all times during the Family Fun Ride! One of the amazing benefits of holding this event in downtown is all participants and spectators will have access to the incredible restaurants, downtown bars, and cafes in the incredible downtown Rio Nuevo district! 


Criterium races typically last 30-45 minutes, with non-stop action as riders compete in fast-paced laps.
